Halv vs Settle Up
The short version. Both apps split shared costs, settle a group in the fewest transfers, work offline and let friends see balances in a browser without installing anything. Settle Up shows ads unless you buy Premium, which also adds receipt photos, recurring expenses, custom categories, Excel export and statistics. It converts currencies with real-time exchange rates and runs on iPhone, Android and Mac.
Halv has no ads and no subscription. Its one paid feature is receipt scanning that splits a bill item by item, with three free scans and then a one-off pass. Every group keeps a separate ledger per currency instead of converting, and paying back opens Revolut or copies an IBAN or BLIK number.

Questions
Does Halv have ads like Settle Up?
No. Halv has no ads and no subscription. Settle Up shows ads in its free version and removes them with Premium.
Can Halv do recurring expenses like Settle Up Premium?
No. Halv doesn't have recurring expenses, so regular costs like rent are added each time they're paid. Settle Up offers recurring and future expenses as part of Premium.
How do Halv and Settle Up handle different currencies?
Settle Up converts expenses using real-time exchange rates. Halv never converts: each group keeps a separate ledger per currency, so a dollar expense in a euro trip stays in dollars and is settled in dollars.
